Volunteers are the backbone of the Fort Erie Multicultural Centre. We rely heavily on the dedication and support of volunteers to achieve our mission of assisting newcomers in settling into Canadian society. With often limited resources, volunteers help us extend our reach and enhance our services in ways that would otherwise be impossible.

Community Navigation (assisting newcomers with navigating community landmarks and services such as stores, doctor’s office, parks and recreation facilities, library, and restaurants, local transit systems, etc.)

Transportation (driving newcomers to Hamilton and / or Toronto for their required immigration medical appointments, legal appointments and refugee hearings)

Improving English (assisting newcomers with English Language practice through agency coordinated groups, 1-1 tutoring, reading and writing practice, etc.)

Cultural Education (food preparation, teaching customs, holidays, conversation cafes)

Housing Assistance (helping with moving and re-location of addresses (some lifting involved), picking up furniture and other donations that assist newcomers with their housing set-up process; helping to make connections with potential landlords and housing availability)

After School Program (attending the after school program at Peace Bridge, working with children aged 5-12 in a supervised setting, creating and facilitating learning and/or recreational activities)

Special Events (help with promotional and fundraising events, selling tickets, planning or organizing events, set up and take down at events, greeting visitors and guests, etc.)

Bingo Volunteer (representing the organization at Bingo events on a monthly/bi-monthly basis or as needed, training is provided, greeting bingo players, assisting with technical issues as needed and clean up)
